Position
Summary: Working as a member of the Resource Access Team and reporting to the
Resource Access Team Leader, the incumbent is responsible for creating metadata
for access to the Library's print, electronic, and institutionally digitized
collections for learning, teaching, and research needs. This includes
performing original and adaptive cataloging on a wide variety of formats for
print and non-print materials as well as for digital collections using
contemporary metadata schemes.
Qualifications: Minimum
Qualifications for Librarian I or II: A graduate degree in Library and
Information Science from a program accredited by the American Library
Association; work experience in a library setting; demonstrated knowledge of
current technology, software, and automated library systems; demonstrated
leadership and communication skills; demonstrated analytical and
problem-solving skills with ability to think strategically, be forward
thinking, and embrace change; and demonstrated ability to work successfully in
a team environment. Additional Minimum Qualifications for Librarian II: Three
(3) years of professional cataloging experience; experience managing a budget
for a department, project, team or committee; and evidence of increasing
involvement in professional development activities outside the University.
Preferred
Qualifications for both Librarian I and Librarian II: Experience independently
creating original catalog records; demonstrated knowledge of national
cataloging standards, such as the following: AACR2r, RDA, LCRI, LCCS, LCSH,
CONSER, and MARC21 for bibliographic and authority data; demonstrated knowledge
of Dublin Core or other non-MARC metadata standards; experience with a broad
range of metadata schemas and the ability to analyze and use metadata standards
for electronic resources and digital collections, experience cataloging serials
and electronic resources; experience with the Voyager integrated library
system; and working knowledge of one or more western European languages in
addition to English.
