                                Position Vacancy – Old Dominion University

 

ODU Libraries seeks an innovative, knowledgeable and experienced library leader to serve as its Associate University Librarian for Information Resources and Technology. Reporting to the University Librarian, this position provides leadership for the Bibliographic Services Department and the Systems Development Department, library information technology planning and development, and the University Libraries’ collection development program. As a member of the senior administration team, the Associate University Librarian for Information Resources and Technology plays a leadership role in library-wide planning, policy making, and the development, evaluation, and assessment of library services and resources.  This position will also lead the reorganization of technical services, library information technology and systems, and collection development. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: Required: ALA accredited MLS; consistent and sustained  record of contributions to the profession ;record  suitable for appointment at the rank of Librarian III; expertise through increasingly responsible positions with demonstrated administrative excellence including effective leadership, management, supervisory, budgetary, and planning experience; extensive experience in human resource management including developing, motivating, mentoring, and coaching staff at all levels; excellent communication, organizational, decision-making, and outreach skills; experience in technical services ; experience with integrated library systems; experience with library systems operations ; current experience managing a library materials budget; experience with collection development  in the 21st century academic library environment; experience with the ways that traditional research collections and services are changing; experience with emerging technologies’ trends and developments in academic libraries; experience with the scholarly publications market and scholarly communication trends; demonstrated commitment to service to all constituencies.

Preferred: Additional graduate degree; experience with project management, operations analysis and improvement; experience with the  III Millennium integrated library system; experience with digital library projects, electronic dissertations and theses, electronic publishing, and evolving models of scholarship; experience in working with state and regional consortia; experience in library development, fundraising, grant writing, and grant funding
