THE UNIVERSITY OF ALABAMA LIBRARIES Database Management Librarian RESPONSIBILITIES: The University Libraries is seeking a dynamic, energetic, and creative librarian committed to excellence in service for the Database Management Librarian position. Working in a team environment and reporting to the Head of Cataloging & Metadata Services, the primary function of this position is to ensure the integrity of the University Libraries online catalog. Specific responsibilities for the position include managing the daily database maintenance activities and supervising the Database Maintenance Unit; developing and implementing policies and procedures pertaining to database maintenance; coordinating authority control; identifying database maintenance projects. QUALIFICATIONS: Required: MLS or equivalent degree from an ALA accredited program. 2-3 years of experience in cataloging or database maintenance in an academic library; experience using OCLC and an integrated library system; knowledge of AACR2, LC classification and subject headings, MARC formats, and authority control standards; awareness of new trends and emerging technologies in cataloging and database maintenance; ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a multifaceted, changing academic environment; computer skills including familiarity with desktop applications and a general knowledge of the Internet; excellent analytical, interpersonal, and communication skills, initiative, and flexibility; commitment to professional growth. Strongly Preferred: Supervisory experience; experience in authority control; experience with Voyager; experience working with government documents. SALARY/BENEFITS: Full-time position for non-tenure-earning renewable appointment of up to three years (annual renewal based upon satisfactory performance review, need, and funding).
