(Registration starts at 8:00 a.m.)

Description
MarcEdit is a freely downloadable metadata
software suite, designed specifically for large-batch record processing.
Functions include batch editing MARC records, character set conversions
and record extractions. MarcEdit provides a number of useful functions
that can be used to simplify database maintenance activities, as well as
provide libraries with an invaluable tool for customizing and correcting
vendor records before introducing them to one’s database. The presentation
will also discuss topics related to the processing of XML metadata, as
well as MarcEdit’s built-in OAI metadata harvester – which provides libraries
a simplified method for generating MARC records from OAI repositories (like
DSpace, Fedora or CONTENTdm).
Instructor Terry Reese Jr., Gray Family
Chair for Innovative Library Services, Oregon State University, and creator
of the MarcEdit program.
