The Serials and Electronic Resources Specialist provides leadership
for the delivery and assessment of the library’s serial and electronic
resources. S/he works with Tri-College colleagues to determine areas in
which collaboration in serials and e-resource management would benefit
the libraries and their patrons. S/he is responsible for accurate
maintenance of the ERM and link resolver systems. The Serials and
Electronic Resources Specialist collects and records usage statistics
for online serials for use in evaluation of these resources. The
incumbent works closely with subject bibliographers to facilitate
evaluation of new titles or format options. In addition, s/he is
responsible for management of ordering, payment, receipt, cataloging
and holdings maintenance of print and microform periodicals as well as
serial online resources. The incumbent works with service providers to
resolve access problems for online resources. Catalogs print
periodicals and works with a team of Tri-College serialists to load and
maintain catalog records for online serials.
Required Credentials:
- Undergraduate degree required, MLS desirable. Familiarity with at
least one foreign language preferred.
- One to two years experience with serial or electronic resource
acquisitions or other significant library experience, preferably in a
technical services department. Experience with OCLC system and an
integrated library system such as Innovative Interfaces. Experience
with an open url link resolver such as SFX. Experience with an
electronic resources management system preferred.
- Requires knowledge of Library of Congress classification and
subject heading schemes.
- Possesses strong organization skills, detail orientation and
ability to juggle competing priorities.
- Requires experience in supervising and motivating student
workers.
- Evidence of ability to work effectively with initiative and
creativity within a collegial framework.
Required Technical Skills:
- Maintains proficiency with the Innovative Interfaces integrated
software for the following: database maintenance, acquisitions,
cataloging, serials/binding, and management modules.
- Maintains proficiency with the administrative functions of SFX
and Verde.
- Maintains proficiency with the software of bibliographic
utilities such as OCLC and vendor acquisitions systems
- Maintains proficiency with general computing applications
including: word processing, spreadsheets, internet browsers, database
software, email, and system software
- Maintains proficiency with the content of resource manuals for
cataloging.
