I would get assurance from the
publisher that they mean perpetual hosted access. You really don’t want
a situation where you cancel your subscription and they give you a bunch of CDs
or tapes that you can’t really use. And if they are members of Portico, so
much the better.
Whatever the case may be, it
needs to be in the signed license agreement.

Subject: [SERIALST] Perpetual Access
We have recently come across a few journal titles in which
the website states there is perpetual access to the title, but the terms or
agreement remains silent on this issue. I am reluctant to cancel print
with so little assurance. Have you come across such a situation, and how
have you handled it? If they state on the invoice, the title –
perpetual access, would you consider that sufficient?
