In regard to Mr. Picerno’s question, we still request
missing pages via Interlibrary Loan. Yes, it does put the book out of commission
for a while, but there are options for making the book accessible if necessary.
We can request a good copy through Interlibrary Loan for the student.
Sometimes a student just wants a particular set of pages or a quick look. In
that case, we can (and sometimes do) make photocopies of the needed pages or
let the student peruse the book in-house.
If a book with missing pages is discovered by a shelver, and
it hasn’t circulated in eons, and if it further fits the weeding policy
for the given subject area – then it gets withdrawn, of course, and no
missing pages are pursued. (The latter statement probably constitutes
superfluous information, but it took me away from reading an unnecessarily
complicated license agreement for half a minute. Ha-ha.)
I, too, will be at the NASIG Conference the latter part of
this week.
