Marketing orienteering Margaret Gregory 26 Apr 2012 10:46 UTC

Membership of orienteering clubs has been pretty static over the last few years and we have not recruited very many young people, so the future of the sport could be uncertain.
The powers that be in the sport are therefore aware of the need to improve our marketing.
Recently the North West Orienteering Association invited member clubs to apply for development grants to enable clubs to do something additional to their present activities. The grants were not restricted to marketing but we got the message.

The proposal is for a group of members from MDOC, SELOC, PFO and DEE to meet with an expert in marketing and by combining our knowledge of the sport with their marketing expertise come up with a programme. This is not seen as a 'one off' activity, but as an ongoing programme with the professional support continuing.

MDOC applied for a grant to undertake this work and have been granted £1000, it is anticipated that £500 will be our share of the cost of the training programme and £500 will be for implementing the programme.

We need a group of members who are interested in this and willing to stay with the project for perhaps two years or more, all being well.

Please let me know if you think you might be interested. This is an expression of interest, we cannot ask for a commitment until we have a clearer picture of the way the programme is going to work.

Thank you

Margaret Gregory
