Hi all,

Many thanks to all of you who have supported our Night Street League events this year.

As I mentioned in the email before NSL 8 in Davenport, we have decided to hold an additional prizegiving event to round off the MDOC 2013-14 NSL series.

This FINAL event will take place on Thursday 6th March 2014 based at The Moorfield in Sale (131 Marsland Road, Sale, M33 3NW. (53.4175, -2.3109) SJ 79434 91233). This is the same venue as was used for NSL event 5 in January. It has been organised and planned by the same team - Peter Ross and Jillyan Farrell - who were involved with NSL5.

Peter has sent the following information

Venue
The pub is a member of the Hungry Horse chain (http://www.hungryhorse.co.uk/pub-finder/details/moorfield-sale), and there is an extensive menu (the download is 5Mb) including burgers and chips at about £5 or £6.  The beer is good, and the landlord and his assistant are very friendly, and they will clearly be able to cope with our numbers quite comfortably, so there will be no need to book food in advance.
Brooklands Metro station is only half a mile to the west along the Marsland Road, but for those coming by car there is parking behind the pub - accessed from Cromer Road.
The area being mapped covers Timperley, Brooklands and Wythenshawe Park. There are some very busy roads round the edges, but none in the competition area except maybe Brooklands Road which isn't so bad being dead straight and a single carriageway.  The road layouts are varied, and there are two brooks that divide the area into blocks, with scarcely any road crossings. However, there are several footbridges, usually situated in open parkland, which I am sure will be used to cut some corners and add to the interest.

Event
With the street LEAGUE events now completed, this event has been dubbed The Night Street Cup Final, with all who take part competing for a new (annual?) cup - The Hydrant Trophy - which will be presented to the winner on the night. The way in which the competition has been set up should ensure that EVERYONE who takes part has a chance of winning the trophy (and not just those who can cover > 15 km!) on the night.

Please note the rules, which differ slightly from those used at our league events -

all competitors to run for 60 minutes
all 50 controls on the map are worth 100 points each
penalty points will be 2 points for each SECOND late
competitors final score will be calculated as gross points less time penalties divided by their average points scored per 60 minutes over this NSL season.

(as Peter helpfully points out - "in other words the prize will go to the person whose has saved their PB till last. This maybe someone who has had a bit of bad luck over the last few weeks and whose average may be a little lower than their true worth. On the other hand the pressure may claim the unreliable to the benefit of the consistent. Who knows? It's the Cup and anyone posting a flier could well win it").

The map is the same one used at NSL5 - with scale 1:15000.

In order to hold the prizegiving at around 8.30pm, we would like the last start to be no later than 7.15 (or alternatively the last finisher to be back by 8.15!).

In addition to the presentation of the Hydrant Trophy, we shall be presenting the Running Bear-sponsored Owl trophies to the winners of the Men's and Women's Handicap competition in the NSL. There will be a number of small additional prizes for those who have done well in the overall league tables.

This prizegiving event is a new venture for the MDOC NSL team, and I hope you will continue to support us by coming along. I'm sure that it will an enjoyable evening.
As usual, we need to get a reasonable estimate of numbers for map printing etc, so please contact me by Saturday 1st March (5pm) to reserve yours.

Looking forward to a barrage of replies.

Best Wishes

Grahame

PS - if you haven't yet been to a street league event, this is your last opportunity this season. Give it a try!
