Hi

Details of 2 workshops being run at the National Cycling Centre in Manchester by GB Sport are given below. GB Sport were largely responsible for the recent article on tax issues for Sports Clubs) in Focus.

Wearing the GMOA Treasurer's hat, I have just booked myself on to the Business Essentials workshop on Wednesday 12th March.

Is anyone else interested in attending either the Business Essentials and / or Marketing Essentials workshop? (Thursday 13th March - same venue).

Speak to Steve Dempsey (MDOC) or me (GMOA) re funding if interested.

Grahame C

To: grahamecrawshaw@gmail.com

Hi Grahame

Please find details of the Manchester workshops as promised  -

The tax authorities are currently targeting those who work and volunteer in sport - clubs and coaches.

Our four hour interactive training workshop will help you to pass a tax inspection and ensure that you won't end up paying significant sums in back tax, penalties and interest.

BUSINESS ESSENTIALS COURSE

Wednesday 12th March from 10am to 2pm at

The National Cycle Centre
Stuart Street
Manchester M11 4DQ

The workshop will show you how to:

  • Pay coaches, casual staff, players and children, to comply with HMRC requirements
  • Ensure your self-employed workers don't get reclassified as employees and land you with a big fine
  • Keep accurate and legible bookkeeping records (you can be fined for poor record-keeping)
  • Ensure that you set your club/business up in the right way to minimise liability
  • Claim the correct expenses (especially important for coaches)
  • Meet your 'reasonable care' obligations to ensure your insurance pays out if things go wrong.

We also have a four hour interactive course detailing how to attract more customers/members and retain the existing ones.

MARKETING ESSENTIALS COURSE

Thursday 13th March from 10am to 2pm at

The National Cycle Centre
Stuart Street
Manchester M11 4DQ

The workshop will detail:

  • Branding and how to build a brand that will professionalise your services and increase your income
  • How to use Facebook and Twitter to bring your services into the 21st century and increase your profile and income
  • Case studies showing some of the best ideas we have come across in sport for you to implement in your programme

Thousands of coaches, administrators and volunteers have already attended our workshops and they are approved/recommended by National Governing Bodies such as the Lawn Tennis Association, British Gymnastics, and British Cycling.

Places cost just £45 per person per course.
