Hi all,
Bad news and good news!
The last event in the 2013-14 MDOC Night Street League Series (event 8) will take
place on Thursday 20th February 2014 in Woodsmoor / Davenport, with the event centre at The Jolly Sailor, 218 Bramhall Lane, Stockport, SK3 8TE, grid ref : SJ899876.
Trevor Roberts (mapper and planner) has provided the following information:
The Jolly Sailor is on the A5102 road from the A6 towards
Bramhall. The road is called Bramhall
Lane. The pub is 600 m south of Davenport station on the right (the west
side). Alternatively, go north towards Stockport from the large roundabout near
Bramall Hall and the pub is 600 m before Davenport
station on the left. The car park at the back of
the pub will take about 100 cars so the landlord does not think there will be any problem
parking. If it does get full, a few yards north towards Davenport
station and Stockport is a point where two
residential roads meet the main road – Ashfield Road to the west and The
Crescent to the east. There is room to park on both of these roads.
On food, the pub takes orders for food until 8:00 pm. There
is a full range of normal pub food ranging in price from £7 to £11. All orders
for food from this menu must be in by 8:00 pm. In addition he will prepare us a
hotpot with bread for £3 per person similar to that put on at the Macclesfield
cricket club. The hotpot will be available from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm and will sit
on the end of the bar to be served by the bar staff. I suggested that we could
take the payment and issue cloakroom tickets as we did at Macclesfield Cricket Club
What to do now!
As usual, we need to get a reasonable estimate of numbers for map printing, and, for this event we also need to provide the pub with final numbers of those who would like the hotpot by Saturday 15th February. So ...
Please
contact me by 10pm on Friday 14th February to reserve your map(s) AND hotpot.
Note that if you plan to order food over the bar on the night (before 8pm!), there is no need to tell me, BUT don't forget to reserve your map! and ....
We are aware that 8pm is a tight deadline, and will therefore make every effort to set up the event so that people can start soon after 6.00pm.
Thanks - and another thing ...
I hope that you have noticed that things are getting quite interesting in the overall results tables now. With people now jostling for position in the prizes, John B has provided the following summary of the current state of play:
Gross Scores
Women
Julie Laverock looks clear as leader, but both
Karen Parker and Laura Hindle have better averages and will almost
certainly overtake her if they register a 4th score, with Laura holding a
decent advantage over Karen.
You could throw a hankie over Clare
Griffin, Jillyan Dobby and Kate Bryant for the next spot, though Kate would
probably sneak in front if she can replace her low score with a more normal
one.
Men
Leon Foster looks very well placed as
leader.
Steve Lang will need to run, and score at
least 133.4 to overtake Matt Driver for second place - which looks
virtually certain given his current 2 scores average 175.4. He would
need 191 to reach Leon's current score - but Leon has a poor run at
Timperley currently counting, so could well move completely out of
reach.
All of Matt Driver, John Britton, Rob Farrington,
Lee Scott and Paul Turner could conceivably place 3rd (or 2nd if Steve is unable
to run) - Matt is favourite as he's the
incumbent. Assuming Matt doesn't improve his current best-4 scores ... John
needs a mere 0.4 improvement on his 3rd best score to sneak in; Rob needs a run
slightly better than his current best; Lee needs at least his second best run;
Paul needs a run slightly better than his current best.
Handicap Scores
Women
As with the Gross, Laura Hindle and Karen Parker
are both likely winners if they register a 4th run, though this is a much closer
call, and likely to go to whoever has the best 4th run.
Again, a hankie covers Julie Laverock, Julie
Brook, Jillyann Dobby, Kath Speak, Kate Bryant for the next spot.
Men
John Britton looks very well placed as
leader.
Steve Lang is the only likely overtaker, but would
need a monster 194 to do so, whereas a much more feasible 135 could move him
into 2nd place.
Paul Turner and Leon Foster are very close for
the next spot - Leon is probably favourite if he runs, as he has a lower score
to drop.
Its not half exciting isn't it?? ...... and that leads me on to the good news mentioned earlier :
Plans are at an advanced stage to put on an additional prize-giving event at the end of the series. Full details to follow, but likely to be held in the Sale / Timperley area on Thursday March 6th. Put the date in your diary NOW, and watch this space!
All (!) for now
Looking forward to the usual deluge of replies - See you in Davenport
