Hi all

The wait is nearly over ..................

The 2018-19 MDOC Night Street League Series kicks off with an event in Chorlton on Thursday 1st November based at The Bowling Green, Brookburn Road, Chorlton, M21 9ES

You may have seen some preliminary information in the Newsletter or on the website already. This will be our eighth series of events, and features at least 3 new areas as well as some that we have used before. Many of these have been extended and modified to ensure a new set of challenges awaits you.

The flyer for the series is attached to this email and gives details of the venues for most of the series.  It will be updated when venues are confirmed for High Lane and the end of season "Cup Final".

Arrangements for the Chorlton event on Thursday 1st November

Most of you are already familiar with the format of the events, but a reminder of their main features is available in the "NSL Major features" attachment. An updated safety notice for the 2018-19 season is also attached.

Planner Ian Watson has provided the following information

There are several busy roads in the area. Take care when crossing these. Also some of the other roads can carry fast traffic. Much of the area is, however, quiet urban streets.

There are routes which go through parkland some of which is unlit. However there is plenty of choice to avoid these. An enlarged map will be available at registration which will show unlit routes. Some annotation of lighting will also appear on the competition map.

The area has many alleyways between and behind houses. A large number of these have gates which may or may not be open on the night. In general such alleyways have not been mapped and will not provide useful routes. If a footpath is marked between or behind houses it will be a more general path used by the public.

There are two metro lines on the map. These will usually be crossed on road or foot bridges. There are points where they can be crossed on the track but the tracks are otherwise out of bounds. i.e. you can’t run along them unless there is a footpath indicated alongside on the map. Access to some routes may require going through a Metro station.

Some controls are on Green Boxes (GB) which aren’t necessarily green! In addition some of these boxes have numbering which is not of the usual 8 or 9 digit format. However, the numbers required should be clear from the clue sheet.

Some of the answers are parts of telephone numbers. To fit the clue sheet some leading digits may have been omitted (e.g. 0161). Most of the controls use the usual street furniture and most answers are 2 digits.

The map scale is 1:12500

Control scores are between 20 and 70. Penalties are the standard 1 point per 2 seconds (30 points per minute)

The pub has a good menu and serves food until 8.00pm. It is not necessary to pre-order but they would appreciate people placing orders before they go for a run. See bowlinggreenchorlton.co.ukThey also have a good selection of real beer (as well as the usual fizzy stuff)

The pub car park is fairly small but there is a public car park just across the road. There is also a reasonable amount of on street parking close to the pub but please be considerate to residents. The Chorlton Metro station is approximately 0.7 miles and Chorlton bus station (lots of buses) about 0.5 miles from the pub. The nearest bus stop is Chorlton Green (276 infrequent) which is less than 200m.
