I have been asked if medics and nurses need to do first aid training, and checked with Mike Hamilton that they were covered.
Mikes positive answer is below.

So if you are professionally qualified and are willing to be a named first aider for a local event, and or for a major one then please let me and Rae Lomas know.
You will of course be asked for any particular event.

Subject: RE: First Aid Qualifications

Hi Margaret,
You are correct in as far as local events are concerned the 1 day course or even the half day course including CPR is acceptable. The events held in more exposed terrain are more challenging and I can confirm that a doctor or nurse will professionally have the appropriate knowledge and experiences to offer first aid provided they are comfortable with the circumstances surrounding the event. So their acceptance of providing first aid cover should be an informed one - they should understand the problems likely to be raised by the exposed terrain.
Hope this helps.
Kind regards,
Mike

Subject: First Aid Qualifications

Dear Mike,

MDOC, like many other clubs has a number of members who are doctors and nurses.
We are also trying to make sure we have a good pool of qualified first aiders to call on for our local events, the 'one day course'.
As we are an urban club it is rare for our assembly area to be much more than half an hour from a full A & E department I feel that the professional qualifications of these people, which include CPR, should be sufficient for the to provide this cover for local events. Is this so?

The situation for cover for more exposed areas is more complicated, is a doctor or nurse covered by their professional qualification for the first aid requirement as a level 2 coach?

Thank you

Margaret Gregory
