Hi all

The MDOC 2012-13 NSL Series reaches the half-way stage with the 4th event which will take place at

The Victorian, Ack Lane East, Bramhall,
(SK7 2BY , SJ890846)
on Thursday 13th December.

Organiser / Planner Trevor R has sent the following information about car parking and food arrangements:

There is a good sized shoppers car park to the rear of the pub which should have room on the evening. If that is full, there are two large car parks on Meadway to the rear of the Esso garage/Tesco Express  off Woodford Road.

The pub will make a hotpot for 15 after which, choices will have to be taken from the menu. At the moment I don't have a price for the hotpot.

Just a reminder about the competition itself :

All the events are SCORE events with a time allowance of either 40, 60 or 75 minutes using specially drawn maps. The control sites will mostly be items of street furniture (lamp posts, telegraph poles, hydrants, green boxes etc) and evidence of your visit will involve noting down some (hopefully obvious) identification mark on an answer sheet supplied at the start. There will be NO O kites and, although we plan to use SI timing for the start and finish, there will be no SI boxes at individual controls.

The controls will have a range of points value - adding an additional dimension to route choice and planning. As usual in score events, there will be penalties for exceeding the time limit.

Essential equipment : a reliable watch, compass, dibber (available for hire if necessary), pen/pencil (maps and answer sheets will be printed on waterproof paper), torch / headtorch (there will be a limited number available to borrow for the event) and high visibility clothing.

You may run individually - or in pairs; however, under 16s MUST be accompanied by a parent / guardian - and they must stay together at all times - ie no shadowing allowed; 16 and 17 year olds may run unaccompanied, but must have written consent from parent / guardian.

As the events form a league, scores from each event will be added together to reveal the eventual winners; your best 4 scores from the 8 events will produce your overall total.

All the events will be based in Pubs - offering food at reasonable prices, if you wish to stay for a chat and post-event analysis (highly recommended!)

Another option we are offering this year is the facility to run your course on a different night if you can't make the actual event - please contact me for further details.

There are a few things to note re the post Xmas events:

Venues for Bollington and The Heatons are now confirmed (see website)

The date of the Macclesfield event has been moved from Thursday 21st February to Thursday 28th February (organiser double-booked), and the venue is likely to be Wetherspoons (but will confirm later).

Entry fees will rise to £3.00 / £1.50 (something to do with BOF levy .........)

As usual, we would like to get a reasonable estimate of numbers at Bramhall (see earlier note), so ....

If you are planning to com
e to the event, please ring or (preferably) send me an email - indicating the number of maps required and whether or not you intend to eat at the pub AND if you would like to order a hotpot meal.

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Best Wishes

Grahame

PS Did you spot the QR code on the Handforth map (easily confused with a complex housing estate)? Scanning the code on your smartphone takes you to the results page for the event.
