Hi all

The wait is nearly over!

The 2017-18 MDOC Night Street League Series kicks off with an event in Macclesfield (SW) on Thursday 2nd November based at The Weaver, Thornton Square, Macclesfield, SK11 7XZ

This will be MDOC's 50th NSL event since we held our first one (in Marple) in 2011.

You may have seen some preliminary information in the Newsletter or on the website already. This will be our seventh series of events, and features 2 new areas as well as some that we have used before. Many of these have been extended and modified to ensure a new set of challenges awaits you.
The flyer for the series is attached to this email and gives details of the venues for the first 5 events.  It will be updated when specific venues are chosen for the later events in the series.

Arrangements for the Macclesfield event on Thursday 2nd November

Most of you are already familiar with the format of the events, but a reminder of their main features is available in the "NSL Major features" attachment. An updated safety notice for the 2017-18 season is also attached

Please note that, in celebration of our 50th event, there will be a couple of minor tweaks to the scoring system - as suggested by the planner (Clare Griffin). I'll let her explain .......

As it's the 50th NSL event and you're all now experts, there will be two slight twists on the usual format:

(1) all 50 point controls will be 'clueless'.  Your answer sheet won't state what item you're looking for.  However all clueless controls will be standard NSL items of street furniture and will be unambiguous -
there will be only one possible object within the control circle.  We'll also give you a single check digit for clueless controls, for confirmation.  (The planning team will be available in the bar afterwards, and are willing to have a philosophical discussion on the true meaning of 'clueless' for the price of a pint.)

(2) if your total score ends in 50 (e.g. 450, 550, or,
for the optimistic, 1050), you will get a 50 point bonus.  Only correct answers count and if you're late back your final score will be calculated after your penalty deductions - not what it would have been if you were on time.

Higher value controls will be available, for those who think the above all sounds a bit complicated.

............. and the pub

The Weaver has a car park with space for about 20 cars which we are welcome to use. Vehicle access is from Thirlmere (not Thornton Square). There is a free public car park serving the shops on Thornton Square and ample space on nearby streets (please park prettily to avoid offending residents).

The pub has offered a choice of three set meals for £6. These are:
Chicken Rogan Josh curry
Beef chilli
Vegetarian pasta bake

As usual, we are unsure of the numbers of runners who will come along, so if you are interested in attending this event :

  • please email me (grahamecrawshaw@gmail.comby 13.00 on Sunday 29th October

  • indicating the number of maps required and (if you’d like to eat) which of the THREE choices you’d like.

NB Clare has to provide the food order to the landlord on Sunday 29th October – so no late food orders please.

Looking forward to the usual deluge of replies!

Grahame Crawshaw (Series Co-ordinator)

PS Please pass this message on to anyone who you think may be interested in coming along - and ask them to reserve a map by dropping me an email
