Please feel free to forward this eNews to your members; it will be published on the eNews page at http://www.britishorienteering.org.uk/page/enews; if you’d rather send them a link please feel free to do so.

This month there are a couple of longer topics followed by a number of short topics.

EGM and the Association & club Conference

We are still asking all members to cast their vote for the EGM – please help us have at least a reasonable turnout either at the EGM itself or in the form of a proxy vote.

The proposals should not be contentious and can be summed up as:

  1. Adding the Isle of Man to the list of territories as defined in the Articles of Association.
  2. Defining the time that a director must stand down before he or she can stand as a director again.
  3. Clarifying that the process of appointing the Chair of the Board is one where the best person for the role can be appointed.

The last two proposals must be adopted to enable British Orienteering to continue to receive public funding.

As these proposals are changes to the Articles they will require a 75% or more voting majority. Proxy voting forms are on the website and must be returned to the office by 11 am Thursday 12 October.

Association and Club Conference 2017 - Registration deadline!

The Association and Club Conference will follow the EGM after a short break. The deadline for delegate registration is Monday 9th October 2017!

The theme of the conference will be to consider our competitions and local events and the part they play in delivering our Strategic Plan. This is a theme that should interest everyone as it looks at the heart of the sport from local events through to major events.

All members are invited to attend, and we encourage as many of you as possible to come along and have your say! If you are interested, please fill in the registration form provided and return by email to info@britishorienteering.org.uk or by post to; British Orienteering, Scholes Mill, Old Coach Road, Tansley, DE4 5FY no later than Monday 9th October 2017.

As in previous years, we also encourage Associations and Clubs to nominate two chosen representatives to represent their views. Association and Club Chairs or Secretaries will need to confirm the names of delegates attending on behalf of their Association or Club. This will register their attendance and these delegates will be eligible to have a contribution to their expenses paid by British Orienteering (details in ‘expenses details’ document). Association and Club Chairs or Secretaries should also nominate their delegates by Friday 6th October 2017 by emailing the registration form to info@britishorienteering.org.uk

We would love and encourage other members that are interested to attend, however, any expenses will need to be covered by the individual, club or association depending on individual arrangements.

Please Note: attendance at the EGM is not confirmation of attendance at the Association and Club conference. Confirmation of attendance is needed for the conference to enable accurate catering requirements.

Staffing

I’m very happy to welcome Peter Brooke and Phil Conway into the development team. This means that the Sport England funded part of the team is now up to the level it should be, and work is progressing to deliver the programmes and targets agreed with Sport England. There are now 4 England Development Officers, Peter and Phil joining Natalie Weir and Tim Herod.

The work to recruit a new Chief Executive continues and our Chair, Judith Holt, will update you when the appointment is made.

Board of Directors

There have been considerable changes to the Board of Directors and we are now able to update you.

British Orienteering e-newsletter for October 2017 – now out!

The October edition of the British Orienteering’s membership e-newsletter has been distributed to all members this week.

These e-newsletters replace the membership Focus magazine which has previously been issued three times a year. Three e-newsletters have now been produced and distributed; if you’ve missed any of the previous e-newsletters you can view them here.

If you have any news stories which you would like to share with other British Orienteering members or have any general feedback on how the e-newsletter can be improved, please get in touch with Jennie Taylor, Communications Officer, at jtaylor@britishorienteering.org.uk

British Sprint and Middle Championships – thanks!

We’d like to thank Peter Woods who was the organiser of British Sprint Champs held on Saturday 30 September and his team for what was another exciting championship.

We’d also like to really thank Mike Cope for organising this year’s British Middle Championships the day after the Sprints, Sunday 1 October. Without Mike Cope stepping in and taking this on a year ago there would not have been a British Middle Champs for members to attend this year! Of course, we’d also like to recognise and thank the team of event officials and helpers who made the event possible and supported Mike.

Best wishes,

Mike
