The next Saturday morning orienteering local event is at Werneth Low on this coming Saturday 24th November, starting from the visitor centre on the hill above the top end of Gee Cross - see MDOC website for exact grid reference. Registration is in the visitor centre and starts from about 10am. It should be possible to purchase drinks at the centre. You should bring a cagoule if the weather is bad as the site is very exposed in wet and windy weather, however the views of the surrounding area are excellent in good weather, and the area is an interesting and colourful hillside with a lot of steep contours, rough ground, nice easy open bit on top, and some bumps and hollows. A yellow route is available, as is a technical score. Fence climbing is not necessary and not allowed. There is one crossing of the horse riding path that cuts the area in two, and this need only be crossed by the technical course users. Loose dogs may be around and there will be ordinary walkers about. There is a car park by the visitor centre but it fills up quickly and we do not have sole use. Last course start strictly 11.30am. You are advised to wash your shoes after doing the course to avoid the spread of ash dieback disease. It is highly unlikely anyone will get lost, but if you have problems, you are advised to head back to the monument on the top of the hill then walk down the obvious path back to the visitor centre. If you register, please remember to download afterwards even if you do not finish the course, so that we can ensure health and safety of everyone. Cost £3 seniors, £1.50 juniors.
