I spotted this on the BOF site and thought it worth circulating. Now that someone has done it once, word will probably spread so it’s likely there will be more incidents.

Take good care of your car!

Last weekend an incident took place at which a car belonging to a member was stolen. The keys had been left behind a wheel and on returning to the car after racing the member found his car had been stolen.

As if that wasn’t bad enough the incident became worse when it was raised with the member that since the keys had been used to steal the car the insurers might not be forthcoming in resolving the claim. Apparently, some insurance companies have a form of wording that excludes the insurers liability if the keys have been used to steal a car.

We will be publishing some good practice about the safe keeping of cars at events as a consequence of this incident but in the meantime please do take care of your car keys, for instance you can often leave them at enquiries.
