Hi all

Following our record turnout in Macclesfield last week, the 4th event of the MDOC NSL series will take place on Tuesday 6th December.

Peter Ross (mapper, planner, organiser etc) has sent the following info and comments -

Jillyan and I have done quite a lot of new mapping so that the pub sits in the middle of the competition area which includes parts of Timperley, Sale, Brooklands and an area north of Wythenshawe Park.

The map is 1:12,500 and fills most of the page, which another way of saying that the area is extensive enough to give the 18km runners a good night out whichever direction they choose to go. Other more cerebral orienteers may enjoy some of the patches of intricate navigation, and yet others may enjoy solving some awkward problems of route choice. I hope so.

The pub has an extensive menu and the beer is pretty good too. The landlord and his assistants are all very friendly, and they will be able to cope with our numbers quite comfortably. There is no need to book food in advance.

Brooklands Metro station is only half a mile to the west of the pub along the Marsland Road, but for those coming by car there is parking behind the pub - accessed from Cromer Road. It is not huge, but parking on the nearby streets will not be difficult.

Maps will be printed late next weekend, so please let me have your entries by midnight on Saturday 3rd December.

PS there were a couple of items of lost property left in Macclesfield - a small black head torch, and a highviz jacket (support green lanes). Please contact me to stake your claim - I'll bring them along to the event in Sale.

PPS many of you will be aware that, in addition to the MDOC NSL, South Ribble OC also run a NSL series on Wednesday evenings in alternate weeks to ours. Its not unusual to bump into MDOC street leaguers at these events. If one NSL event per week is not enough, DEE are organising 3 events in the New Year on Tuesday evenings (of the SROC weeks) - 24th January in Halewood, 21st February in Northwich, and Tuesday 7th March (tbc) in Chester.
