To all MDOC and SELOC members
Four years on from the review process that we undertook in 2012, GMOA wants to again do a comprehensive review of the condition of its 50+ Permanent Courses.
In 2016 we would like to set up a project whereby one person agrees to spend the equivalent of 1 day a week visiting all the POCs (i.e. one POC per week). They would essentially have 4 tasks:
a) a) Notice
any map amendments needed, do small map corrections (such as a new building or
a new path) themselves either using OCAD or on paper, and highlight to GMOA if
a major re-map is needed
b) b) Consider
whether any of the suggested courses should be modified as a result of changes
in the park (such as a new fence which makes a post inaccessible)
c) c) Look
at the condition of the posts, do minor repair work (such as repainting the
code and symbol) and report to GMOA if a post needs replacing, renewing or
re-siting.
d) d) If
there is a visitor centre or a café in the park, arrange to display a poster
and see if it is possible to sell maps. Get a poster onto any noticeboard.
This project would give GMOA POCs a consistent standard to aim for, and would give a clear indication of where major maintenance work is required.
Please note that it in no way replaces the regular visits
made by postwatchers – these are invaluable.
If you are interested in this year-long project, please send
a quote to Sue Birkinshaw. Your quote should be for a fixed sum which includes
your own expenses, including travel costs. It does NOT require you to precisely
visit one park per week.
