Hi all

Hard on the heels of our opening event in Bramhall / Cheadle Hulme last Tuesday, the 2nd MDOC NSL event of the 2015/6 season will take place on Thursday 12 November at the Cock & Pheasant, Bollington Road, SK10 5EJ.

There is also an entrance to the car park from Flash Lane. The car park has some 48 marked bays, some of which will be in use by regulars. If the car park is full, it is not feasible to park on Bollington Road or Flash Lane. Instead please continue eastwards towards Bollington town centre and take the first right down Princess Drive, parking on-street where you can without blocking entrances.

Registration will be in the conservatory at the rear of the pub (next to the car park) which we have reserved for the evening. For reasons of road safety, the Start/Finish will be on the opposite side of Bollington Road from the pub, on the grass verge. Please cross the road with care.

Terrain; and equipment advice

The competition area is indicated on the attached OS map extract.

The road and footpath network of Bollington takes up about a third of the mapped area, while the remainder features: the Middlewood Way, a canal towpath, unlit rural roads and paths, and some significant contours including Kerridge, with White Nancy at its northern end.

Some slopes and steps are steep and potentially slippery.

Many people opting for 40 or 60 minutes will be able to complete their run without venturing far outside the urban area.

For all others, the Organiser (Ian Gilliver) strongly recommends the use of shoes with grip (e.g. trail shoes), and the carrying of a back-up light and a whistle (or a mobile phone ) so that in case of emergency it will be possible to summon help.

Controls

In addition to the standard NSL control symbols, two controls refer to Bollington Nostalgia Walk footpath signs [sample attached]. The clue will say: “Nostalgia: Bee”. You will be required to give the name of the bee!

Food

We have been offered a discounted price of £6 for a standard portion of chilli con carne with rice, cheddar, sour cream and a crisp tortilla.

Alternatively you can order from the menu on the night.

The landlord needs to know by Monday 9 November how many chilli dishes we will need so that he can order extra supplies in time for our event.

Reserving a map (and food)

As usual, we are unsure of the numbers of runners who will come along, so if you are interested in attending this event:

·        please email me (grahamecrawshaw@gmail.com) by 23:59 on Sunday 8th November

·        indicating the number of maps required and (if you’d like to eat) whether you would like to order a chilli.

If you are unable to decide in advance whether you can attend, do come along on the night as we will have a few spare maps…

…but no late food orders please.

Looking forward to the usual deluge of replies!

Grahame Crawshaw (Series Co-ordinator)

PS Please pass this message on to anyone who you think may be interested in coming along - and ask them to reserve a map by dropping me an email
