Folks,
Somewhat later than intended ... some slightly better definition of
what some of the roles are. No-one has asked to change the
provisional assignments, so I've assumed they're OK.
Parking. 2 shifts of 3. Everyone needs a Hi-Vis jacket.
Person 1 needs the Bucket and 50p float. Persons 1 and 2 could bring
their own chair and sit rather than stand most of the time.
Pete Lomas/Richard Blake/Grahame Crawshaw assemble at 9.30, go for a
run when relieved at 11:30.
Matthew Fellbaum, Doug Edwards, Ian Watson assemble at 11.30, stand
down around 1:30, go for a late run. Arrivals after 1:30 will have
to park themselves.
There is no-one at the main road - just a kite and signs.
Person 1 is positioned at the end of the wide straight road across
the field before the parking field. Stop any over-size vehicle
(minibuses, campervans) and park them on the side of the wide road,
and let everyone else through. Collect £1.50 from every vehicle
except Helpers, who park free, and Campsite peeps who are nothing to
do with us.
Person 2 is positioned at the end of the track just before the farm.
For Orienteers, point them at Person 3, for Campsite traffic, let it
through the farmyard. Turn back anyone who wants to exit against
the flow of traffic - there's another way out back through the yard.
Person 3 stands where the next vehicle is to park, and waves so they
can be seen.
String Course ... all in the capable hands of Thorntons and
Fellbaums.
Silver Point.
Silver Point Start. Dave Mawdsley leave Side Farm 11:15
followed by Chris Kirkham at
I should have set up a couple of start boxes on Friday and left a
Start banner nearby ... Dave needs to add the start clock, pick up
a Start List/clipboard, Start, Clear, Check - boxes and stakes, bags
of Maps and Control dresciptions, and run a relaxed start for
White,Yellow,Orange and Silver. We may as well be relaxed about
start times for these courses - so long as people are far enough
apart.
Chris needs to run as early as possible, and get down in time for
Dave to get up for his late run. Chris needs to carry everything
back when the Starts are over (and Please take care cos it will all
be re-used on Sunday).
Silver Point Finish. Andrew and Margaret - Pick up the
Finish box and stake, and hopefully find the banner close to where
the finish is. Margaret runs early and takes over from Andrew, who
can then climb up to have a late run. Banner and stake to be
returned at close of event.
Margaret's Vodafone should stay at the Finish, so any incidents can
be reported in asap.
Silver Point Control Collection.
Vicky and Alistair Thornton - as soon as convenient after 3pm plus a
bit. We should know pretty quickly that everyone is back. Please
don't forget the extra sign at the NE corner to stop White folks
wandering off to Pooley Bridge!
Kit Check. Jan Ellis, Alison Doyle. First one in position 11am,
relieved around 12.30.
I'll put a sign by the gate next to the farmyard. Have a Hi-Vis
jacket and ask to see Whistle and Dibber. Don't worry about String
course folks. People without whistles can be asked to go back and
buy one on Saturday, and can borrow one from Enquiries (we've
half-a-dozen or so) on Sunday. Dibbers is self-evident. Decent
amounts of clothing and food would be sensible. I will also put
notices around the place (including here) if I think cags should be
compulsory.
One purpose of this check is to save the Start team having to do
it. If people become
Place Fell.
Place Fell Start. First shift Chris Rostron, Ian Gilliver,
Paul Jarvis, Julia Simpson - Chris is "team leader". Tons of stuff
to carry up, and need to leave at 10:30. Paul's Vodafone should go
up there, too. Hopefully, I'll have marked out 4 start boxes,
clothing dump, and dumped feather and banner somewhere close. Bivvy
tent, 2 x synchronised Clocks, stakes and punches for Clear, Check,
Start, Start kite, maps (in bags), control descriptions, notices,
start lists/clipboards, plus your own comfy chairs and kit bags.
Second Shift ... have an early run and then take over, so first
shift get a late run ... Steve Fellbaum (team leader), Liam Corner,
Hazel and Trevor Hindle. 4 roles:
Start Line ... keep the map bags tidy. Try not to say anything more
than indicating ... punching start - start kite - map bags.
Check box ... keep the display maps and control descriptions tidy.
Check everyone's dibbers.
Gatekeeper ... call out (by name and course colour) people to go
into the box at -4; tick them off against your List; collect Start
Slips from EOD/Open/Split starters and keep in a bag.
Troubleshooter ... handle any queries, late arrivals, etc - slot
people (eg. helpers) in where convenient as appropriate.
NB. if weather is decent, I see no reason to mess about and people
should go on their allocated time. If it isn't very nice, I wouldn't
object to being flexible so long as nobody goes out in consecutive
minutes on a course.
NB. if people are perceived to be going out without mandatory kit
(I'm thinking cags) I'd suggest not getting flustered, but make a
note of their names and we'll take a later call whether to DQ them
or not.
NB. as for Silver Point, please be careful with notices, etc, as
they'll have to be re-used on Sunday!
NB. Second Shift on the way back ... please retrieve all the tapes
and signs I will have put out on Friday
Place Fell Finish. Jane McCann and Tony Wagg. Equipment to
carry up ... First Aid rucksack, Bivvy tent, Finish stake and box,
The Official Vodafone. Hopefully the feather will already be up
there. Take your own comfy chair ?
Need to be in position at 12.00 until everybody is declared back,
and bring everything back down.
I expect to have quite a lot of phone contact - first to establish
that the wondrous texting system is working and later to home in on
everybody being back.
Place Fell Control Collection. Steve Dempsey, Matt White,
Dan and Karen Parker, Steve Lang. Steve D is in charge of this, but
I'd suggest convening at the Finish soon after 4pm, as there's a
good chance everybody will be back well before courses officially
close at 5pm.
EOD, Enquiries - Jen, Rae, Irene, Sue - assemble 10am latest.
Computing - Steve Bingham, James McCann, Julie ... first
shift assemble sometime around 10:30 to get EOD's into the system,
and wait for Eddie to get back before going for a late run.
Differences for Day 2.
Timings are all 2 hours earlier - but for people going up the hill,
15 minutes later as the walk up to Boredale Hause is less.
Margaret and Andrew take over Kit Check.
Alison and Jan take over the Junior Start.
Steve Lang, Dave Mawdsley and Chris Kirkham join Steve Fellbaum's Main
Start team.
Control Collection become Dave McCann, Steve Dempsey, Liam
Corner, Peter Ross, Jillyann Dobby, Hazel and Trevor Hindle, Steve
Beresford.
There is exactly one pre-allocated Start in the last half-hour,
though we may get some late EODs. So it is extremely likely that the
last finishers will be the late-run helpers, and we should be done
well before courses close.
Any questions ?
John Britton
