Planning of next Mondays event at The Knott Inn
at Rushton Spencer nears completion.
If the pub car park becomes full, overflow
(public) parking is available nearby.
Registration is from 6.30pm, with a pre-race
briefing at 7.10pm before a mass start at 7.15pm.
Competitors choose between 60 and 90 minutes in
the course of their run.
Each of the 40 controls has the same
value.
The map will be at a scale of 1:17,000 (to be
confirmed).
You will need a pen/pencil, and a
watch.
Terrain:
The event uses the undulating lanes and Rights
of Way to the west of Rushton Spencer. The eastern edge of the competition area
is fairly flat, but elsewhere be prepared to encounter some
contours!
Some of the footpaths are seldom used and are
therefore indistinct on the ground. Where it is no longer feasible to use a
path, it will be over-printed on the map with red crosses to indicate it is Out
of Bounds.
Footpath arrows are often helpful in indicating
the direction of the path, even if it cant be identified on the
ground.
There are nettles in the vicinity of many
stiles, so full leg cover is recommended.
Many controls can be accessed by footpaths, but
some road running is likely. Currently some fields are wet underfoot and
so you are recommended to wear shoes that offer both cushioning and
grip.
Please take care when running on and crossing
roads.
Farm animals:
Also please note that this is very much a
farming area, and you may encounter cattle, sheep and lambs, and occasionally
horses.
Please treat these creatures with respect many
will ignore you, but please slow down or go around these creatures if they might
be bothered by your presence.
Also, please leave gates as you find them: shut
them if they were shut, and leave them open if they were
open.
Food availability:
The Knott Inn has agreed to provide a choice of two meals for the advantageous price of £5:
Alternatively you can choose from the pubs
standard menu.
Food will be waitress-served at dining tables
within the pub, but there is also a large beer garden if you want to drink
outside if you do, it might be an idea to bring insect repellent (just in
case!).
Theres a choice of 5 real ales from £3.30/pint, and wines are available by the glass.
Hope to see lots of you there!
