Hi all

Last Thursday's excellent event in Ashton upon Mersey brought us to the half-way stage of our regular season calendar. The 4 events so far - on 2 new and 2 updated areas - have seen an increase in the number of runners over previous years with a sizeable cohort of DEEsiders regularly braving South Manchester's traffic problems for their fortnightly "fix".

The league tables showing scores from all 4 events are now posted on the MDOC website (www.mdoc.org.uk), and I've included John's brief analysis below.

Just a couple of other things to mention ......

Don't forget to add your route to the others on ROUTE GADGET (on the website) -  it's a great way of finding out exactly how some runners manage to post huge points scores, and is also useful for the planner to see if the challenges set have been met

We are still surprised at the number of 'wrong' answers submitted (but they are declining ....)

Remember that if you can't get to the event on the night, you can request a copy of the map and question sheet, and run the course when convenient for you. You can then send in your answers and time taken and your result will be incorporated into the tables. All late runs must be completed by the 25th February (one week after Event 8 in Wilmslow).

Anybody got any strong views on the different scoring system(s)? We'd love to hear them (I think ....)

Here are John's observations on the Christmas League Tables:

Gross Men - This looks destined to go right down to the wire. Steve Lang and John Embrey seem to have it between them, except that Warren Mason, Leon Foster, Matt Driver and James Walsh have all shown they can post similar scores, so they'll join the fray as soon as they have 4 counters.

Handicap Men - This Owl will soon have a new home !  It looks pretty much all over as John Embrey is scoring better than anyone else and already has good 4 scores. Other chaps will have to significantly up their game in the New Year to get into contention, though the scrap for lesser placings will also be very tight.

Gross Women - This is also wide open. Julie Laverock is fairly comfortably ahead of Clare Griffin and Kate Bryant, but Elspeth Ingleby, Karen Parker, Laura and Carolyn Hindle and Alice Willson might all go in front if they were to post enough scores.

Handicap Women:  Also wide open, with Kate currently ahead of Julie, but Elspeth, Karen, Laura and Carolyn could all be in the frame.

All to play for (mostly)!

So, enough for now .... thanks to all those who have put considerable amounts of time, energy and enthusiasm into the NSL series so far, and to everyone who has supported us by coming along to the events and taking part. Best wishes for Christmas and the New Year, and we'll see you in Hazel Grove on the 6th of January!
