Note:-
Web results are likely to be
amended (at some stage) since our two MDOC teams (Mixed Adhoc MDOC Kudu and W60 MDOC
Antelope) which needed to be filled up with
non-MDOC members should have been noted as being non-comp. The results
co-ordinator has been informed.

RELAY RESULTS – SCROLL DOWN FOR RESULTS
Well run every one.
Another fun day with some fine performances resulting in one of our M60 and W40
teams making it onto the podium to take home bronze medals.
The terrain and relay planning was what we all expected
which meant that this year (in contrast to 2011) it suited the runners.
However in places it was still important to hold a bearing accurately,
interpret the contours correctly and pretty much ignore the vegetation - the
final details terrain notes had wisely warned us that not all trees and juniper
bushes were mapped. (Mapping all vegetation would have unnecessarily cluttered
the map). There was still the odd tricky depression, crag, boulder etc
which meant you had to keep your wits about you especially for those fit enough
to run at speed.
Strong performances on the early legs which put teams in
contention, and excited the MDOC contingent with lots of mentions booming out
over the PA system, came from James McCann, Ben Dempsey, Alistair Thornton, Tom
Fellbaum (only 31secs down on leading men’s premier), Vicky Thornton, Heather
Fellbaum, Irene Crawshaw and John Britton.
Notable performances came from Tom McCann who finished
strongly (despite his lack of O practice), Gemma Manley who bravely tackled the
1st leg and mass start experience in her first relay event, Tom
Horton who did what was required despite a recently badly twisted ankle, Steve
Dempsey who ran up several classes to bring the team home in a very creditable
10th position in the men’s premier, Jane McCann and Cliff Etherden
who both found themselves on the ‘pressure third legs’ and who kept their heads
running steady races to clinch the medals, the ‘white tail’ team all performed
consistently well, Jan Ellis just back from Japan had a solid run and both
Chris Rostron and Steve Fellbaum, with 8 seconds between them, both ran their
socks off.
Finally, it is a pity there is not an M70 class since if
there was we may well have won gold....I shall be mentioning that on my BOC
feedback sheet!
The day ended with most MDOC members being involved in a
well organised prize giving which was not without it’s comical moments....my
favourite (mentioning no names J)
being the handling of a very large rose bowl which was lucky to escape without
a dent!
There was only one organisational hic cup (to our
knowledge) which future relay organisers should note and that is that if the
different leg lengths of the adhoc classes are to be mixed up (to split runners
up) then this should be mentioned either in the entry information for team
captains to read when making initial entries or failing that in the final
details. That way adhoc team members can be pre-warned that their final
running leg order may well change and only be know the day before the race
according to map allocation. Some club captains of other clubs failed to
read all the information provided in their envelopes the day before the relays
which resulted in some adhoc team members running courses too easy or too
difficult for them...whops.
