Hi all

OK – the wait is nearly over! The 2014-15 Night Street League Series kicks off with an event in Withington / Didsbury on Tuesday 28th October – based at The Red Lion, Wilmslow Road, Withington, M20 4BT.  You may have seen some preliminary information in the Newsletter or on the website already. This will be our fourth series of events, and features 3 completely new areas as well as some that we have used before. Many of these have been extended and modified to ensure a new set of challenges awaits you.
The flyer for the series is attached to this email and gives details of the venues for the first 4 events up until Christmas. It will be updated (asap!) when specific venues are chosen for the later events in the series.

A reminder of the some of the major features of the events ……….

All the events are SCORE events with a time allowance of either 40, 60, or 75 minutes using specially drawn maps. The control sites will mostly be items of street furniture (telegraph poles, hydrants, green boxes, post boxes etc) and evidence of your visit will involve noting down some (hopefully obvious) identification mark on an answer sheet supplied at registration. There will be NO O kites and, although we plan to use SI timing for the start and finish, there will be no SI boxes at individual controls.

The controls will have a range of points value - adding an additional dimension to route choice and planning. As usual in score events, there will be penalties for exceeding the time limit.

Essential equipment: a reliable watch, compass, dibber (available for hire if necessary), pen/pencil (maps and answer sheets will be printed on waterproof paper), torch or headtorch and high visibility clothing.

You may run individually - or in pairs; however, under 16s MUST be accompanied by a parent / guardian - and they must stay together at all times - ie no shadowing is allowed; 16 and 17 year olds may run unaccompanied, but must have written consent from parent / guardian.

As the events form a league, scores from each event will be added together to reveal the eventual winners; your best 4 scores from the 8 events will produce your overall total. Trophies will be awarded to the winners of the Handicap Competition. This will take place at the “Cup Final” event in Ashton upon Mersey in March 2015.

All the events will be based in Pubs / Sports Clubs - offering food and drink at reasonable prices, if you wish to stay for a chat and post-event analysis (highly recommended!)

If you can't get to the event on the night, you can contact us to get hold of a map and question sheet. You can then run the course when convenient, submit your answers and time taken, and we'll incorporate your score into the results.

Arrangements on the night

Rob Farrington (Planner / Organiser) has sent me the following information about the pub: they are happy to have us and have plenty of room; however, their last food orders are 8pm. I gather they are happy to let us pre order though, and we can encourage 75ers to run early (we can start people at 6.15 if necessary).

Please note the “pre-order” and “run early” advice if you are planning on the 75 minute option!

As usual, we are unsure of the numbers of runners who will attend ..... SO

If you are interested in attending this event (we'll deal with the others later!), please email me (grahamecrawshaw@gmail.com) by Thursday 23rd October - indicating the number of maps required and whether or not you intend to eat at the pub.

Looking forward to the usual deluge of replies!

Grahame Crawshaw (Series Co-ordinator)
