As part of our activities to serve the orienteering community we now have a SPORTident system which is based on the SI-fCard. If your club owns a set of SPORTident stations and you organise training sessions for your club, the SI-fCard system could be of interest for you.
The SI-fCard is a flat square card, a little smaller than a credit/debit card. It is semi-permanently fixed at each control and the main advantage is that it is much less expensive than a station. In the unfortunate circumstance that it is lost or vandalised, the financial loss is not too great. At the moment, each participant need to carry a BSF8 station and this is placed against the SI-fCard at each control. At the finish of the activity, each BSF8 station is downloaded into the SPORTident Printoutstation and a splits print is printed. The SI-fCard system works in the opposite way to a conventional SPORTident system.
Right now we have two pilot applications. If there is sufficient demand from organisations, SPORTident will create a miniaturized BSF8 which like an SI-Card can be attached to the finger or carried on a lanyard. We are also considering manufacturing a low cost "Readout at Home" station that would allow an SI-Card owner to read the data from their SI-Card at home. The SPORTident SI-fCard is supported by firmware version 5.77.
