Final call to pre-order maps and optional food for this Wednesday's countryside score at the Church House (if you have not already done so).

Please note there are a limited number of Meat or Veg Chillis available which will go to those who have pre-booked as a priority on a first booked first served basis so get your orders in quick if you want to secure food!

I have also attached results from the last event at the Grouse at Birch Vale (from Jim T).  Apologies, I had forgotten to distribute these earlier.

Regards,

Andy

The second in this year’s series of Countryside Score events will take place on Wednesday 25th June at the Church House pub in Sutton Lane Ends, SE of Macclesfield. Many of you will have driven past it en route to Macc Forest. It has a large car park, to the right of the pub as viewed from the approach from Macclesfield, but please park tidily to maximise capacity.

Shelagh, the publican, has kindly agreed to provide a chilli con carne and a (veggie) three bean chilli for £6.50/head, but needs to know the total order by no later than close of play on Sunday so that she can order the ingredients.

So, please now let me have your map request together with your choice of meat chilli/veggie chilli/no chilli by email no later than 17:00 on Sunday 22 June.

Ian Gilliver (the planner / organiser) has also provided the following notes:

The map includes the villages of Sutton and Langley, a small section of the Macclesfield Canal, some reservoirs and lots of farmland. Some 50 controls are widely spread, some in clusters. Route choice will be important: judging the length of where you can go while returning with the time limit will be crucial. For those tempted by the outlying controls there are some bail-out route options - but not in every case.

For those not planning to go far from the pub, there’s a scatter of controls nearby which will not require you to cross many contours. Whereas, for those who fancy a bit of climb, there’s plenty available.

Last week some of the footpaths were particularly muddy, so shoes with grip are advised. Some of the meadows had not yet been mown, so some minor paths (while clearly signed) may not be obvious on the ground.

The Church House is cosy inside, and provides picnic tables in the courtyard. It typically offers a range of 5 real ales. The regular choice is Robinson’s Unicorn, but recent reconnaissance has been rewarded by fine local examples of the brewing art: e.g. from Storm, Redwillow and Wincle breweries (@ £3.10/pint).

Many thanks,

Andy
