Hello John,

i would be interested in some technical training. I would class myself as an intermediate; i can get round a light green pretty well but sometimes take less than optimum lines on green so would be looking to sharpen up my fine navigatio skills.

As for venues i have found Alderley Edge and Teggs Nose quite challenging in certain areas when selecting the optimum route to a control so maybe these are suitable training areas?

Many thanks

Subject: [MDOC] MDOC Training

Hi MDOC

I’ve been asked to propose some possibilities for training in the coming months although unfortunately I’m away first in Portugal and then in Finland at international Trail Orienteering competitions so that takes out the remainder of June and a chunk of July.

I was about to send out a Doodle poll to find suitable dates/times, but they’ve just changed the interface so it might take me a while to get my head round the new interface.

Anyway, here are my thoughts:

·         The poll earlier in the year showed an interest in doing some more training in MDOC

·         There were two main sets of potential “customers” for this training:

o   Comparative newcomers to the sport who wish to get a few of the basics sorted out

o   Established orienteers who are looking to practice and improve their techniques.

·         While these two sets aren’t mutually exclusive (for instance, many established orienteers would benefit from practising the basics, me for instance on compass work), different terrain would lend itself to different types of training.

·         I have some exercises I planned for the NWJS in Lyme Park and Grin Low (Buxton), but I’m guessing the bracken and other undergrowth wouldn’t lend itself to fun training so I’ll have to think of other venues.

·         Since it is summer (and I have a lot of weekends booked doing other work) I’ll see what mid-week evenings there are that don’t clash with MDOC or DEE evening events and put them in the Doodle poll. For instance I don’t think there is much on a Mon eve.

·         The emphasis on any training will be technical training – not fitness sessions.

Feel free to send me suggestions such as venues.

Have fun at Brereton Heath tomorrow night

Cheers
