Cheatgrass (Bromus tectorum) expansion and the resulting increase in wildland fire frequency has reduced the potential for native vegetation recovery over millions of acres in the Great Basin. Active post-fire restoration is often needed where native vegetation and seed banks were depleted before the fire. Successful post-fire restoration includes re-establishment of native forbs, which play an important role in resisting nonnative species dominance and provide important habitat for pollinators and other animals.

To assist in the re-establishment of native forbs in the Great Basin, an online book, Western Forbs: Biology, Ecology, and Use in Restoration<https://eepurl.us2.list-manage.com/track/click?u=5f6de7b069a57255f980944b4&id=c59c538e72&e=18179c394a>, is now available. This book, to which new species chapters are being added on an ongoing basis, combines knowledge gained through research and practical experience to offer valuable insights on how to select appropriate native forb species and populations, manage and increase seed supplies, and develop strategies to improve post-fire restoration success.
