Lead Restoration Technician – Redwood Creek

The Golden Gate National Parks Conservancy (Parks Conservancy) is the nonprofit support partner to many of the Bay Area’s open space management agencies. These parklands add immeasurably to the quality of life in the San Francisco Bay Area. The Redwood Creek Vegetation Program is comprised of resource management staff from the National Park Service, California State Parks, and the Parks Conservancy, working on lands within Muir Woods National Monument, Golden Gate National Recreation Area and Mount Tamalpais State Park. This Team works collaboratively across jurisdictions to increase the health and resiliency of the Redwood Creek Watershed in Marin County, California.

Position Overview
The Lead Restoration Technician will serve as crew lead of the four-person Redwood Creek Restoration Technician team. The team performs restoration activities to support park projects, initiatives, and community programs throughout the Redwood Creek Watershed, in Marin County, California.  The Lead Restoration Technician will report to Fort Cronkhite, Sausalito each workday; the team then travels to work at multiple project/site locations throughout the Redwood Creek Watershed, including on GGNRA and Mt. Tamalpais State Park lands.

This is a benefited full-time, 40hr/week position working a Monday-Friday schedule. It is funded from July 2019 through March 2020, with the likelihood for extension.

Description of Duties
Fieldwork:
• Invasive species removal using manual, mechanical, and herbicide control methods.
• Conduct field-based data collection on work performed using GPS units/mobile devices.
• Implement revegetation workplans using container plants, field divisions, root stock, or broadcast seed.
• Foster and maintain a culture of safety in the work group.
• Takes responsibility for the quality of work produced by self and team members.
• Other duties as assigned.
Leadership:
• Exhibits confidence in self and others; motivates the team to accomplish goals.
• Communicates goals and workplans to staff and volunteers.
• Supports, mentors, and trains team members.
• Assists in leading volunteer programs.
• Engages and fosters communication with park visitors.
Administration:
• Assists Program Lead in implementing restoration and invasive species management goals, scheduling field activities, and day to day logistics.
• Maintains herbicide application records and equipment.
• Submits work performed data and manages time keeping for the team.
• Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
• Familiarity with Bay Area ecology, native habitat restoration, and ecological monitoring.
• Ability to identify native and invasive vegetation species in all life stages.
• Demonstrates initiative when assessing situations and takes appropriate actions.
• Experience with power tools or ability and willingness to gain experience.
• Proficient basic computer skills, familiarity with using Microsoft Office.
• Familiarity with GPS and GIS.

Certifications:
• California Qualified Applicator’s Certificate or willingness to obtain.
• Valid Driver’s License and a clean driving record.

Physical Requirements and Work Environment:
• Position is 80% in the field, 20% administrative/in the office
• Work is performed in an outdoor setting and includes exposure to poison oak, ticks, yellow jackets, and adverse conditions, including, but not limited to, exposure to sun, wind, rain, loud noise, uneven terrain, mud.
• Work is primarily performed standing or walking.
• Work requires squatting and kneeling.
• Frequently lifts, carries, and positions objects weighing up to 50 pounds
• Work with a diverse range of people and foster an environment of inclusion

Compensation
The salary for this position will be commensurate with work experience, skills and educational background. This position is eligible for full Conservancy benefits, to include health, dental and vision care.
