The Invasive Species Program at the California Department of Fish and Wildlife is hiring a Senior Environmental Scientist position based in Sacramento.

 

Under the direction of the Environmental Program Manager I for the Invasive Species Program, the incumbent is the lead for the development of prevention planning documents associated with the statewide quagga and zebra mussel program. The incumbent will provide technical and policy guidance and assistance to water agencies and landowners in the development and implementation of dreissenid mussel prevention programs pursuant to Section 2302 of the Fish and Game Code, and establish statewide standards for consistent application of these programs in CDFW Regions. The incumbent will act as the program’s liaison with the California Department of Parks and Recreation, Division of Boating and Waterways for the implementation of the dreissenid mussel prevention grant program. Work in this position is characterized by independent application of analytical procedures and monitoring protocols for prevention, detection and rapid response for quagga/zebra mussels and other invasive species. A high degree of personal initiative is required. Public contacts made in the course of this work are sensitive and involve a wide variety of special interest groups. Errors in applying the best available technical information or in presentation may have significant consequences for the public, the Department, and trust resources.
