SENIOR ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENTIST (SPECIALIST) – OCEANO DUNES DISTRICT/ NATURAL RESOURCES SECTOR/ DISTRICT OFFICE
The reporting location for this position is the Oceano Dunes District office. This position will work under the direction of the Senior Environmental Scientist (Supervisory).
This position works at the advanced journey level and is responsible for independently planning and implementing the most complex environmental programs in the District. This individual
will implement natural resource inventories; evaluate the condition of natural systems; map vegetation and wildlife habitat; assess impacts from public recreational activity on plants, animals, and habitats; and prepare detailed annual reports in support or
the district’s regulatory and environmental compliance programs. This position is assigned to coordinate the restoration and vegetation management programs which involves using the best available science to restore and manage the vital ecosystems within the
district. This position may serve as lead person to multiple professional scientists and seasonal field technicians.
This position is expected to have extensive experience in native plant restoration, greenhouse operations, the ecological role of invasive species in native plant communities, methods to
control invasive exotic species, rare plant conservation methods, general hazardous tree principles, and an understanding of methods to monitor and track changes in dynamic dune, riparian, and wetland habitats. This position is also expected to be involved
in Air Quality Control issues.
This position is required to have sufficient skills to be included in the District California Department of Fish and Wildlife District Scientific Collecting Permit and the United States
Fish and Wildlife Service Recovery Permit.
