Nick et al, All the images being shared are such good quality and clarity. I just can't seem to be able to process my data to look anywhere near as crisp as everyone else. I suspect it is because I am using a DSLR at prime focus and focus may not be spot on, but I also struggle with Deep Sky Stacker. Does the Section have a tutorial on stacking comet data? It would be a most valuable resource. It was a clear, transparent evening here in Chelmsford last night (Oct 22). I've put an image taken with my Edge HD 11 on the BAA website here: https://britastro.org/observations/observation.php?id=20241023_065628_bfeaca274a05056c I've processed this with a log stretch but no other enhancement so, hopefully, it approximates the visual view in a large telescope. It shows the intense central condensation, parabolic hoods ahead of this and a central bright ray behind. The dark lane is also there down the tail although this may be an effect caused by streamers in the tail which are better seen in this wider field image: https://britastro.org/observations/observation.php?id=20241022_203630_2c05054cdb65b1a4 If you have sent me images and observations of the comet many thanks and my apologies if I haven't responded yet. I will get around to it but it is a busy time for he Comet Section Director at the moment! Nick. The circus tent had gone so it was a little better and the comet came out as 4.4 – I used lambda as a comparison (although it is listed as a NSV), which is why I twigged that I should have combined the magnitudes of the two components. I’ve discovered that the comet is now visible from my back garden, which gives a slightly darker ambience. It will get higher in the early evening over the next month, albeit fading – it will be a telescopic object by the end of November. > > Regards, > > Jonathan Shanklin > BAA Comet Section visual observations co-ordinator > https://www.ast.cam.ac.uk/~jds/ > > > > From: Paul Abel - paul.abel at yahoo.co.uk (via baa-comet list) > <baa-comet@simplelists.com> > Sent: Sunday, October 20, 2024 7:57 PM > To: baa-comet@simplelists.com > Subject: [BAA Comets] C/2023 A3 Tsuchishan-ATLAS this evening. > > Hi all, > > I managed my first observation of the comet this evening using by 10 x > 32 binoculars.
