Alexei,

Thanks for that nicely processed image from LASCO C3. As you say, the
FITS files have much more dynamic range than the processed "blue" images.

On comets-ml Qicheng Zhang using LASCO C3 reports an estimate of -3.3 in
a 15 arcmin coma so that is pretty much in line with the predicted mag
with forward scattering:
