Re: [BAA Comets] Predictions for C/2023 A3 Tsuchinshan-ATLAS

I managed to image this comet this morning using a widefield system in
Chile (iTelescope T70, 135mm, f/2 Samyang lens + ASI2600MM). I got a
magnitude of 3.5 using comphot but the image was saturated so this is
probably an underestimate. The comet shows a really nice dust tail and a
typical "shadow" of the nucleus which isn't a shadow but a darker region
behind the photocentre along the tail. I last saw this with C/2020 F3
(NEOWISE) when it was at its best.
The comet is, theoretically, visible from the southern UK now, very low
in the morning twilight but it would take amazingly clear skies and good
fortune to get it.
I'm confident now that it will be a very nice object post-conjunction
from October 11 onwards. We just need to hope for good weather at the
critical time!
