C/2023 A3 (Tsuchinshan-ATLAS) 9 arcsec lightcurve
Nick James 18 Jul 2024 06:48 UTC
Morning all,
Here is the latest lightcurve from near-nucleus photometry in a 9 arcsec
aperture for this comet. It is now brightening quite rapidly and the
lightcurve is smooth with no indication of any fragmentation or
outbursts. The comet is currently affected by the moon but some recent
images have shown a faint ion tail in addition to the dust tail.
From the southern hemisphere we have one more moon-free period to image
this comet before it disappears into the evening twilight. It should
continue to brighten quite rapidly during this period. If you have
access to telescopes in the southern hemisphere please have a go at
getting some photometry to add to this plot.
Nick.
